— The path

Twenty-three years in software, twenty-two of them coding.

Over two decades writing code that runs. From the web to thick-client desktop applications, from small teams to large organisations: Yann has worked for leading French companies and for international groups alike, on consumer-facing products as well as on critical internal systems.

What the variety left behind: a simple conviction that clear architectures win over time, and that premature abstractions do more damage than bugs. Another, more stubborn one: useful software beats impressive software. Ynelys grew out of those two ideas.

— Off the screen

The dojo, another school.

Before the code, there was karate. Years of top-level competition, learning that technique holds up through repetition and mindset, not the other way round. Then the move to the other side of the mat: more than ten years coaching, and a few more as a regional head-coach and selector, spotting and training the next generation.

What karate teaches, and what code remembers: repetition, technical rigour, pressure management, the urge to measure yourself against what looks too hard. Challenges are not a warning, they are the reason to go. Ynelys is not an easier project than the previous ones; that is precisely why it is interesting.

— Why now

Twenty-two years building other people's ideas.

For two decades, I wrote the code for products others designed. I enjoyed it, learned a great deal, and built up one quiet certainty: most of the software we use every day could be simpler, longer-lived, more respectful of the person on the other side of the screen.

Ynelys is my attempt to prove that through two tools from my everyday life: my collections and my U15 team. Two uses, the same care, with no external pressure.

— Why Ynelys

A publisher, not a startup.

Ynelys is not a startup. It is a software publisher, in the literal sense: a house that designs, ships and maintains the tools it imagines itself, over time. No fundraising, no growth at all costs, no planned exit. Two products grounded in lived needs, built in depth and maintained for the long run.

The references are explicit: Panic, Iconfactory, Basecamp. Small, independent houses that have patiently built software you still enjoy using ten years later. Ynelys has chosen that path, in French, from Haute-Savoie.

Collectalys is the first product. It comes from a real need: pulling every modern media collection into one place, giving it value, helping you find what you already own.

Kickalys is the second, and it comes from exactly the same place. As an assistant U15 coach and the parent of a player in that age group, Yann Rozelot wrote the software he was missing to run a team: sessions, attendance, call-ups, line-ups, match sheets. Every screen served a Saturday morning before it went into the product. More products will follow, with the same philosophy: useful, long-lived, respectful.

— The method

Write less, ship more.

Every line of Collectalys and Kickalys has been written by one person. Neither a boast nor a handicap: a constraint that forces choices. What is not essential is not in the product. What is in the product has to work on every target platform, without compromise.

Technical decisions favor simplicity: one shared codebase, proven tools, no micro-services where a monolith will do. AI enters the product when it gives a clear answer to a precise question, never to fill the screen.

Trust over time

Your data stays accessible.

Kickalys provides for handing club data back on request. Its backup and restore procedure is documented and has been tested. Data recovery and support arrangements are clarified with each club before its space opens.
